    Comax France / History

    The COMAX France group

    Expert

    Green Energy

COMAX France is a major player in the renewable energy sector.

After being one of the first corporations to invest in cogeneration solutions since 2003, COMAX France has decided to specialize in electricity storage.

    About us

    COMAX France, Since 2003

Based in Aquitaine, France, COMAX France was founded in 2003 under the impetus of a North American group already specializing in large-scale independent electricity generation.

By 2005 COMAX France’s electricity generation had increased tenfold.

Thanks to its robust model based on multiple medium-sized production facilities, the Group was able to stay the course even throughout the long recession that began in 2009.

Between December 2016 and June 2022, COMAX France was one of the assets of the BASALT Group based in London and New York.

An investment company indirectly controlled by Investindustrial VII L.P. became the majority shareholder of Comax in July 2022.

COMAX France in numbers: - 30 power plants spread across France - 120 engines and turbines - 12+ Lithium-Ion battery storage containers

As an expert in the electricity market in which the Group is actively participating, it has chosen to turn to electricity storage.

With this dynamic solution, it can add a renewable hallmark to an already virtuous business.

COMAX and the energy storage industry

Like many of the mechanisms that surround us, the French electricity system is also used to maintain the delicate balance between supply and demand, i.e. between production and consumption. To achieve this stability in a rapidly evolving and increasingly complex environment, the historical French electricity operator, EDF, hired independent producers, participating in the “adjustment mechanism” overseen by the company RTE (literally “Electricity Transmission Network”).

COMAX France is one of the players that has been contributing to this balance for many years, either through cogeneration, which makes it possible to handle an increase in electricity demand in winter, or through Dispatchable generation specially devoted to evening out the most erratic part of demand, as sudden and unpredictable as it may be.

Building on this experience, whose value continues to grow because of a demand affected by climate change that can no longer be overlooked, COMAX France has acquired a real expertise that allows it to accurately understand emerging.

Today, the Group has decided to go further by improving its offer through electricity storage with the aim of increasing its storage capacity to over 250 MW.

Accordingly, COMAX France, which is already able to provide a structured response as part of fast capacity, is now able to offer a dynamic solution as part of primary and secondary reserve power.
